Toyota Corolla AE86 Toureno

Hello and welcome to the ADC Blog. What better way to launch a website than to start a blog alongside?! Thank you for visiting and we hope you enjoying reading as much as we enjoy creating!

The AE86...

This job isn't something we would normally take on but after struggling to find the best way to get the car completed in the required time frame, we bit the bullet and decided to offer Ryan some help.

After making it's way from Japan to it's UK home, this car needed some TLC. Ryan did a great job of getting it 90% of the way there then we teamed up for that last 10%.

Ryan wanted his AE86 to stand out from the crowd. One sure fire way of achieving that was to get the ADC touch thrown at it and shower it with carbon goodness. Doors, bonnet and tailgate had already been purchased so to compliment these parts we skinned the roof and fuel filler door as part of a full paint job. We also had the task of fitting Aero catches into the bonnet which meant taking a Dremel to a brand new carbon bonnet. Like the rest of the job, perfection was key. As you can see from the pictures, the roof on these are not a separate panel. The roof and quarter panels are actually one piece with no break. As the skinning process creates an added thickness of 2-3mm, a carbon skinned roof was not going to be a walk in the park! There was some light damage in the roof which required addressing first, light work. Roof repaired and the car in primer, it was time to take on the challenge. We figured out how and where the paint was going to be laid which gave us a location for our carbon cloth. The first coat of resin was applied then the cloth was ready to lay. This was a 'one chance only' job so perfection was critical. We got the cloth laid and sure enough, perfection was what we got. Just the dry cloth on the roof looked absolutely fantastic so we knew we were in for a treat by the time of completion. Over the next few days we layered the roof with resin to gain some depth to achieve the ultimate shine as well as blending into the quarter panels.

Carbon skinning complete, it was time for paint. Ryan had chosen Porsche's 'Grey Black' to go with the typical gloss black bottom half. The job was to paint the shell and clear coat all of the carbon panels to make them really pop in the sun. This came out great. The icing on the cake was the transition between the grey and carbon on the roof. That extra 2-3mm was invisible.

The car is now back with Ryan, fully built up and has already been on display at Modified Nationals at Lincolnshire Showground. All that remains now is to get the car back in a couple of weeks time for a flow coat. This will add more depth to the paint. Coupled with a ceramic coating shortly after, the finish on this car will be absolutely outstanding!

If you got this far, thank you! We hope you enjoyed this one. We have more to come in the near future!
